PettavelPettavel Winery and Restaurant was named in recognition of the achievements of Mr David Pettavel, a Swiss emigrant who in 1842 was the first vigneron and winemaker in the Geelong region. The modern day Pettavel Winery and Restaurant, established in 2001, is based in the Surf Coast wine region and overlooks the original Pettavel vineyard site. It is owned by the Fitzpatrick family who are third generation wine growers. Pettavel features a state of the art winery, cellar door sales, award winning restaurant and flexible function facilities. Since the restaurant opened it has maintained an Age Good Food Guide "One Hat" rating for seven consecutive years. The current Pettavel range of estate grown wines, Evening Star, Platina and Southern Émigré have been named after the ships which David Pettavel originally sailed on from Europe. The Pettavel portfolio of wine is produced entirely from grapes grown on the Fitzpatrick's two Geelong vineyards. Pettavel Winery & Restaurant is surrounded by 35 acres of Shiraz vines in Waurn Ponds, where the close proximity to the ocean produces vibrant youthful red berry fruit flavours with abundant spice. The Sutherlands Creek “Strathmore” 150 acre vineyard is situated in the Moorabool Valley where the balance of Pettavel’s wine portfolio is produced. Pettavel is located near the start of the Great Ocean Road, 10 km from the heart of Geelong and only 50 minutes from Melbourne.
