Barwon RidgeBarwon Ridge is a small family run vineyard in the Barrabool Hills just 10 minutes west of Geelong. This vineyard is one of a small number re-establishing in the Barrabool Hills after an absence of over 100 years. The vineyard is planted on a limestone ridge above the Barwon River and has sweeping views over the You Yangs and the plains to the west, and glimpses of Corio Bay to the east. We first planted in late 1999 and there are approximately 3.6 hectares (9 acres) under vine, with Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Marsanne, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon planted. Geoff Anson, Joan Anson, and Ken King are the partners. Geoff and Ken are the winemakers, and Geoff and Joan look after the vineyard with the assistance of their many helpers. 2004 was the first vintage from the vineyard, with small quantities of Marsanne and Shiraz. Since 2005 Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon have also been added but quantities are small due to the drought. Our first Chardonnay will be available late in 2009. Our aim is to express the characteristics of fine Geelong wines through the growing of premium grapes and production of quality hand crafted wines.
