Following strong results in the Geelong Wine Show last month, where Oakdene received the most number of medals of any exhibitor (8), one Gold, three Silver and four Bronze. The boutique producer, located in Wallington on the Bellarine Peninsula (near Geelong), had more reason to celebrate when the current release 2007 Shiraz was awarded Gold in the 2009 Victorian Wine Show on October 24

Oakdene Wine Manager, Steven Paul said the results confirmed the Bellarine Peninsula (Geelong) is a great place to produce Shiraz, alongside the traditional varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

"We were very pleased with the Gold in the Victorian Wine Show, especially with such strong wines coming out of the Grampians and Heathcote regions, however receiving Gold in a national show such as the Royal Melbourne was totally unexpected," Mr Paul said.

The 2007 Shiraz is the third release from Oakdene’s 6 acre Shiraz block, planted to two clones (PT23 and Bests) in 2001, and the wine was made by Ray Nadeson. Production 300 cases.

 Gold Medal: Oakdene 2007 Shiraz, 2009 Victorian Wine Show, Class 31 Shiraz 2007 and older.

116 exhibits, 5 Gold Medals awarded.

 Gold Medal: Oakdene 2007 Shiraz, 2009 Royal Melbourne Wine Show, Class 32 Shiraz 2005, 2006, 2007.

361 exhibits, 5 Gold Medals awarded.

"To receive two Gold medals in large classes in major wine shows consistency in both the 2007 Shiraz and the judging teams," Mr Paul said.

The wine is available at Oakdene Restaurant, cellar door and selected restaurants and fine wine retailers in the Greater Geelong region.
